With a couple hours to hunt this afternoon I returned to Druid Hill Park and to the spot where I was yesterday. I did a grid search and turned up some more old targets. First was a 1926 wheat and then a no-date shield nickel. Two IHCs followed and these were both down at least 8 inches. IMG_8164.webp

Last target of the day was this piece of custom silver jewelry with what looks like an amethyst; any help on the makers mark will be appreciated.IMG_8166.webpIMG_8167.webpIMG_8168.webp

Congrats on the old coin shooting! :icon_thumleft:

Very nice. Awesome shield nickel. Way to go!!

Thanks Professor! Still some old coins left to shoot.

Thanks washingtonian. The side with the '5' is the better side. We've gone over this area many times but by going slow I'm still hearing the deep targets.

Sweet finds. Congrats

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

That jewelry is Beefy! Nice finds

You're probably as good as I am at identifying cut stones. Yeah, it could be an amythyst. Unusual cut for one though.

I saw several older ones lastnight looking them up. The cuts on the older ones were more like that than on some of the more modern. Modern as in the 1950’s. I couldn’t find a match for that makers mark. I saw a bunch of them, and I had to finally give up, and go to sleep

Nice way on getting into 2020! :occasion14:

Thanks for losing some shut-eye on this, civil_war 22! I appreciate it. These hallmarks usually leave with a big ????

It’s usually pretty easy to ID, I have two online books of hallmarks, makers marks. I didn’t lose much sleep, I usually have to wait till my PTSD, sleeping meds to knock me out. I woke up with my laptop still logged into the same place I left off.

Yours is somewhat like a Oval Cut, but it’s an older cut. I’ve got to find the one I found lastnight with a similar cut. The part that sucks about jewelry, is the hallmarks can be made by someone in the US or someone even in Asia. I found several lastnight with almost the same setting, the loop up top was the only difference. I wasn’t able to see the hallmark, but they were .925. I thought Oneida, or Omega, hell I even tried writing in the description of the symbol, and couldn’t find it.

Sad part is it’s a nice piece, fixing it would be awesome just to be able to use it again. It shouldn’t take much to fix it. I’ll have to go back through to show you the one I’m talking about. I’ll have to go back through the history on computer to find it, but the cuts in the Amethyst, along with the setting was almost identical except for the area where it hangs on a necklace.

Wow! Thanks civil_war 22. I dropped the piece off to the jeweler today and their gem specialist will be in Monday to do a refraction test. On of the guys at the shop tested it today and it shws up as amethyst. We'll see. I will let you know.
