Last weekend I thought I'd try my luck at an oval I hadn't detected before. The old map I have identified it as the showground in years past which has now changed to a rugby field. I only had about an hour because it was hot and a competition rugby game started and i started to feel a little self conscious :D.

Under one tree I was pleased to pull out a silver coin but once I had it out I couldn't for the life of me work out what it was. It was still pretty encrusted but I could tell it was silver and had a British monarch on it. When i got it home and cleaned up I found that it was an Australian florin which had been ground down to have multiple edges - someone with access to a file was obviously well off and bored.

A foot away from the silver I pulled out a 1928 Irish penny followed shortly thereafter by an Aussie one, then followed a silver sixpence. All under the same tree (I love trees). I was just about to call it quits for the day when I got a nice strong signal. I dug down and out popped two florins. All last year I only found 1 florin and now I found 3 in an hour.

Needless to say I will be going back.

Congrats on the nice finds! HH, Mike

Well done, the silver is stacking up. Have you found any sterling florins so far? also curious which is the most rare australian silver coin you have found so far? thanks for showing.

Hi - nope, haven't found any Stirling Silver florins as yet, they're all post '45. The rarest silver coin I've found so far is a 1912 sixpence. I still haven't broken the pre-1900 silver drought but the year is still young :)
