Found this at an old Mill site here in Manheim Pa. I had thought i had searched it out and hit a curious signal. What I found was a totally encrusted pin of some sort. i was convinced it was a zinc alloy or some junk ornament that had been in a fire. A few days later I picked it up and scratched off the Sterling mark on the back. It took a while to pick at the front to get a good idea of what it actually looked like. Anyone have any idea exactly what it is and the age bracket?
Beautiful design! I have no idea of its age. To me, more likely to be a brooch because its pin-back is so narrow it probably wouldn't stay in place in a hairdo.
looks like it has a 'safety clasp' (a C clasp with a safety catch that rolls over to close it). this type of clasp was invented around 1910 and of course is still in use today. my guess is that your piece is most likely from the 1920's based on styling.
That's a very nice find ! I think jewelerguy is correct - that is a brooch - and the style is certainly 20's -30's - look at the Danish designer
George Jensen for similar style silver designs .
