Cotton....I heard rumors and I say RUMORs of something like that a few years ago ....Hope you prove the rumors to be ture......rdi

Maybe 15 years ago I heard from a park ranger that someone found a gold doubloon on Boca Grande pass, but never anything else.

With really no shipwrecks in the area that I know of I would think there couldn't be many if any. Of course someone back then could have lost one just like people today lose coins.

What time are you picking me up cotton? ;D ;D ;D

MAN - I hope you have good luck with the hunt! Gold and diamonds are thrilling to find but Spanish coins... ahhhhhh Be sure to sacrifice a Dr Pepper! ::)

Hmm, interesting...
I know there's supposed to be alot of unknown wrecks around us along the central west coast.
Guess you just never know until you find evidence. :)
Good luck!

According to Florida's Fabulous Treasures . . .

" in Boca Grande Pass on the north end of Cayo Costa an American frigate with $3,000,000 in minted U.S. gold coins sank in 1823.

• There were reports that when they were first dredging the Venice Inlet, a shipwreck was struck with the clam bucket dredge and gold coins were being picked up from the sand piles. A scan of old newspapers might confirm this story.

• After tropical storms, Spanish coins have been washing up on the beach at Stump Pass, just SW of Grove City. The dates are running from l754-l762, and the coins are in good condition. A gold 8 Escudo with a similar date was recovered in the water from the same area.

• Spanish gold coins were found on the beach at Longboat Key near Sarasota, after a dredger pumped in sand from off-shore.

I haven't found any of these gold and silver coins myself . . .

I wonder what modern stuff was found... as most of the articles I've read have been about finds found back in the 60's or later. There's got to be some really modern stuff over the past 5 years or so, right?
