Silver coins, you distinguish those by no copper color in the reeding?

So in theory couldn't you tear a small strip down a roll and tell right away if you had anything you were looking for..
Or are you out looking for errors most of the time?
Excuse my ignorance if this is a stupid idea.

I always slide them out and look at the edge first, then go through coin by coin - looking for specific dates that have known errors or ones that are in really nice shape that could fill a slot in my book.

I was surprised last week to find a 1967 40% silver in a roll because if you look at the edge of the coin you would have thought it was strickly clad - very discolored.

In my searches of half dollar rolls, I have even found a few 90% that I did not spot by looking at the edge. It was very tarnished and discolored, so it did not have that bright silver look I was expecting. I agree with the above post, look at the edge to get anything obvious, then go thru each one by one. I do this anyway, as I also pull out the 1974D halves to put under a magnafying glass to see if it is a double die.

Yeah, I also look at the 74-D's, but don't forget to look for the 1982,1983 & 1990's that don't have the initials "FG" on the back!!

So you determine the value by the year, the silver content I mean.. ?
What is a double die - it went through twice?
Where can I get a list of what to look for,
Coin hunting will be alot of enjoyment and fun
