Was at another old beach this morning for a couple of hours.. ...looking for the old stuff..I love old coins and old jewelry.

I found a very thickly encrusted , tarnished cross which I had to electrolyze for quite a while before the encrustation started flaking off.

This cross is oooooooooooold....can't even find a "sterling " or "925" marking on it...and if there is an image of Christ on it, it is just barely visible...difficult to tell.

Tested the cross with a silver acid test and result was a strong positive.

Also found what I had hoped to be a "V" nickel.....not this time :>(

Here's pics

Thanks for looking

Lorraine

Les, the kit I use contains two solutions: one for testing the presence of gold; and one for testing the presence of silver.

I'm not sure if one is allowed to post pics of a product with the name and address of the company, so I'll send you an e-mail with the info.

Thank you , Keyshunter; good point.... yes, the entire cross is in poor condition; I'll be sending it in for meltdown...if the refinery returns it back to me, I'll repost with the info either way.

Good job Lorraine. :icon_thumleft:
That's some diligence with the silver cleaning. I just pile up all that crusty stuff and sell it in bulk.

Thanks for posting that nice looking silver cross Lorraine.
Too bad that mystery coin ended up being a Jefferson....
like you said, maybe next time. HH Gold Nuggets :hello:

Wow, never have seen a cross like that, very unusal and very good find. Just meant to be yours.....HH

some times if you clean it to well ,it takes away from the find it self

i will pay 50 for that if you send it to me

I'd want to take it to a jeweler to verify its metallic content; don't know when I'll find the time to do so.

I'll post the results when I get the info.
