Silver dragon coin, cool match safe!!

Had a good hunt on Friday. My friend gave me the token he found. Any way to date the dragon coin or variety? Now I know they exist!!

Cool find, but be aware that these coins were heavily faked in their day (and still are today). Check with a magnet, but that doesn’t always weed out the fakes. They’re undated, but the central characters on the obverse look to be for the late Qing Dynasty Guangxu Emperor. He reigned from 1875 to 1908, but these coins were minted between about 1890 and 1908.

7 Mace and 2 Candareens (=1 Yuan) was a standard silver dollar weight used during this period.

Good find & probably OK, but as Red-Coat stated could be faked from the period, so the 'old layer' you talk of is irrelevant. They are often silver plated ('so definitely silver'), so a magnet is a quick & cheap way to check, or weight it.

Thank you very much , I did check it with a magnet. And it sounds exactly like silver when dropped on a hard surface. We have a money muesum nearby. I will drop in with them and have them check it out!!!
