Silver picture frame

Found this Sunday at the 1860's college. I think it's silver,but there are no markings. Not sure of age either,so if any one has any idea's let me know. It doe's have an older looking latch. I also posted it in the "what is it" forum. Wasn't very deep either,just under the grass.

Looks more like a broach, but beautiful nonetheless, WTG.
 

Plehbah is right--a brooch or buckle. Silver. Victorian or a little earlier. And a GREAT find!
