Last dig of the season since we are going to get a lot of snow and the ground is freezing. Found another flat button in the same spot i found one last week. Also found what i think may be an old camp spoon (found in same place as buttons and a 3ringer). I am finding a lot of nails and bits of rose colored glass in the same holes.

Button: anyone seen one like this? I think it is silver plated on the front since it came out of the ground shiny on the front.

Both the spoon and the button are much earlier than the Civil War, so you are probably on a early house site.

It does look more like a house sight because of the glass but allot of times stuff around here will be a mixture.I know the button is much earlier but it is not uncommon to find flat buttons and iron spoons in C.S camps.

Looks like a colonial pewter spoon to me. Maybe the OP can clarify.

That button is a beauty! [emoji106]

Man that is one gorgeous button!! Big congrats!

WOW...thanks everyone. I am new to this so I usually am not aware of history of my finds. I look to the experts on this site to help out and you always come through! I have total access to all 50 acres on this site and so far all of this has been found in the 10 foot x 10 foot area. Lots more to hit when the ground thaws. Now if i can just keep myself calm while I wait. DogIron2 - ground was a bit frozen (about top 2") but not too bad.

I think you are right about the spoon too steve.another look at the finds ,I have to admit my argument was wrong.

THE SPOON LOOKS LIKE A COLONIAL "DOG NOSE" LATE 1600S - EARLY 1700S
I HAVE A SIMILAR BUTTON TO YOURS - ITS NOT SILVER PLATE - ITS ACTUALLY SILVER LAYERED - THEY ATTACHED A THIN LAYER
OF THE ORNATE SILVER TO THE BRASS FLAT BUTTON - I MIGHT SAY MID/ LATE 1700S TO EARLY 1800S
