The spoon appears to be International Silver’s plain ‘Hutton’ pattern, which dates from 1960.
You didn’t mention the button, which is a great find. It’s a cuff button for cadets at the Georgia Military Institute, founded in Marietta in 1851 and burned down by Union troops in 1864, never to reopen. Coat buttons have a depiction of the temple from Georgia’s coat of arms.
The Institute opened to students in July 1851 as the principal source of education for engineers and teachers prior to the Civil War, being presented with muskets, swords, and a battery of four cannons provided by the state in 1852 as state subsidies began overtaking private subscriptions and donations. Between 1853 and 1861 they had around 150 to 200 cadets.
The rigorous and physically demanding curriculum was based on that used by the Military Academy at West Point, New York and many cadets went on to serve in newly forming Southern armies in 1861 and 1862. The cadet battalion spent most of the Civil War servicing at funerals, as provost guards, prisoner escorts, and drill instructors until the spring of 1864 when every available man was reassigned to active defence of the state.
Under the leadership of Superintendent Francis W. Capers, promoted to the rank of Major, the cadets entered service in the Confederate Army of Tennessee as a volunteer unit, not under the draft, in May 1864. They saw service contesting the Union invasion along the Chattahoochee River in July, and as part of the defending forces during the siege of Atlanta in August. I believe coat buttons from the wartime period had an eagle in the design rather than the temple. Not sure about cuff buttons. The battalion officially disbanded on May 20, 1865.
