Today turned out cold and windy but the pocket spill I found made numb hands worth it. I was detecting my neighbors yard, with an 1840's house and barn. Have found lots of junk and clad but until today only a 41 Merc for silver. This morning I got a pretty good signal, dug a generous sized plug and signal was still in hole, after loosening the soil I saw a nickel stuck to a SLQ, recheck hole and still a signal, pulled another SLQ, rescan and theres a faint whisper that turned out to be my first Barber dime! I just put them in my shirt pocket dirt and all. Kept detecting for a while longer with nothing more than junk metal, finally I had to come in to rinse the coins and get a good look. The 2 SLQ's I can't see a date , the Barber dime is a 1912 and the nickel is a 1941. I also have to go back to recover what I think may be a cap gun, under roots I could feel what seemed to be the cylender and barrel. It's gonna take time to recover it but Monday I'll be at it. Also found a totally crusted coin there 2 days ago that after cleaning turned out to be an 1868 2 cent coin. The pics I took of the 2 center are no good, will try in better light to get a postable pic. This last week has been pretty good and these finds are from within 50 yards of where I sit right now! I had a feeling the silver had to be there and today was the day. Thanks for looking and happy diggin to all.
