The Excal guys already got it. :laughing7: Just kidding. Hey, some days it's silver and some days it's gold, just the nature of the beast. At least it wasn't just pennies, bobby pins, and can slaw. :icon_thumleft:

I read platinum doesn't tarnish and the ring was purple like silver from the water, so I Googled it. Unfortunately they do make 950 silver , commonly in Mexico. 950 indicates 95% silver 5% alloy. So it says on the internet anyway. Bummed!

You can often tell by the weight for a given size ring.
If it is heavy (feels like lead) the 950 is most likely platinum.
If light then most likely silver from Mexico.

Also, platinum is much harder than silver and does not scratch easily.

It weighs 4.7 and had a purple tarnish, so I cleaned it up in a silver soak mixture. Yep it was silver as it scratched easy and tested for it after it was clean. It would have weighed more in the 10 + gram area for it's size I guess. I must have had a moment of denial.
Thanks for the info!

Those are two nice finds, L I R !:icon_thumright:

Silver ring cleaned up so very well!

Sure beats my $1.61 in clad and two pieces of junk jewelry yesterday. Looks good to me... Papa

Yes but it's value is probably worth as much as your clad finds. It should be illegal to wear fake jewelry to the beach! And no bottles or cans! And Bobby pins! And aluminum foil! LOL!
