Today I paid a visit to an unused West End beach at Jones Beach. As the beach has been closed for at least 10 years, I didn't expect to find much. However, they open it for the bass fishermen at this time of the year so I decided to give it a try. After working the wet sand area for 2 hours at low tide, I didn't find anything so I switched to the dry sand. With my DFX I hit on a couple of coins but not much. So I walked along the dune line as I was heading back to the car. I hit on a nice sounding target and I dug it up. It turned out to be a silver starfish pendant that probably fell off of a silver chain, which I did not find. Yes I looked thoroughly. As you can see, it wasn't very big. I photographed it next to a dime to show size. zz63.webpzz62.webp

Cool little silver charm! Nautical themed treasure is the best kind! :coins::icon_thumright:

Claire, you should go To West End just to see how it has changed. The beach access is overgrown with vegetation, and there are just a couple of narrow trails leading to the beach. Also the dunes have re-built themselves along the former beach access at the back of the beach. Five years ago, I worked the beach access and it was a hundred yards across. Now that expanse is all filled in. It's all been reclaimed by nature. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Under Miner, Texjim, deershed, and DTS52.
