I detected an old 1880's mining town in a remote area of Arizona this week. Near where the old mercantile store stood I found a honey hole that had 6 Levi Strauss buttons and 7 Levi Strauss rivets and these 2 items. I believe they are silver as they came out of the ground looking exactly like they do in this picture. The "tags" themselves are about 1 1/2" wide and an 1" high. Any thoughts as to what these could be? Thanks for all of your help.

what does the other side look like ?

Reminds me of Lids to Pill Boxes.

Less Likely Bib overall Decorations.
or suspender clips.

But without seeing the other Side
I'm of no help :tongue3:

The predecessors to today's Toe Tags? Lots of mining accidents and shootings back then...

They definitely were meant to be engraved, or marked on the blank scrolls of paper.

I'm thinking a vintage luggage tag you could have personally monogramed. I can't find yours, but looking up antique silver luggage tags you find many fancy examples with a strap to a attach them to your luggage handle.

Looks like the top half of a vintage binder or clipboard clip.

you can see the top of the loops have some wear indicating that have been worked back and forth a good amount of times. I believe they are suspender or garter clip pieces

I still think we need to see the Backs to I.D. them.

It appears to me they are Clips or covers of some type .

Matt may be the Closest
Though I haven't ruled out Suspender Clips or fancy covers
or slid on straps like a Bolo Slides on Strings

I believe JG is all over it. They are upside down in the pic. Overall/suspender clasps.

My apologies all in not responding sooner and posting pictures of the back side. I have been traveling on a family vacation and I am just now getting back online. I appreciate everyone weighing in with their thoughts. Here is the picture of the backside of the items....

Let's see the Levi buttons and rivets. Looks like you stumbled on a whole pant/suspender set! Sweet set of suspenders!

I still believe that these are very old, Pit or Check Tags for Miners that would hang on a board having numbers engraved on them to indicate which miners were underground and for other purposes. MiningArtifactsII

In silver? No these are not miners check tags. Cool link though.

Any further thoughts from any of you as to what you think these tags might be, now that I have posted pictures of the back of the tags? Thanks for your help.
