OK you silver hounds... Here's your chance to post your totals for the 2006.
How many 90%'ers, 40%'ers, war nicks, and other silver have you found in coin rolls this year?

I will start it off with a big, fat ZERO. ;D

You can update your postings as you add to the silver count.
They say confession's good for the soul. Have you been wondering, like me, how many ounces of silver are out there?

Let's hear about your finds!

HH,
Bob

FINAL PLANNED UPDATE 1/7/07, 4:45 PM EST

OK, people. Here's the final totals for 2006 (unless someone posts a late update, of course).

It will be VERY interesting to see how 2007's totals stack up against 2006's. I am quite curious to see if the silver still in circulation out there is on the decline, or if the supply is big enough to maintain numbers similar to the hefty totals for this year.

90%'ers found = 2488 (899.88 ounces of silver);
40%'ers found = 11,604 (1716.23 ounces of silver);
Quarters found = 745 (135.47 ounces of silver);
Dimes found = 1540 (111.40 ounces of silver);
War nickels = 189 (11.67 ounces of silver);
Dollars = 46 (35.58 ounces of silver)
Indirect silver = 13.1 ounces

Total silver bullion weight = 2923.34 oz (that's 182.71 POUNDS!!!);
Total value of silver = $35,430.83
using 1/5/2007's quote of $12.12 per ounce.

What a year, folks. You guys performed above and beyond the call of duty!

NOTE - only post for 2006 in this thread. Please use the new thread for 2007.

HH,
Bob

PS - I will accept late updates. Happy hunting in 2007, people. Tally ho!

By the way, I'm the one who grabbed the silver walkers from Ray the other day- 63 of 'em! It was a good deal for both of us-

WoW some of you are really raking it in.

Congrats,

Re: Silver Totals for 2006

I'm glad you asked.......

I just returned from a silver hunt weekend. My totals thus far (I started in April 2006):

871 40% Kennedy's (1965-1969)
85 90% Kennedy's (1964)
48 Franklin's
22 Walking Liberty's
1 1976-S
2 Proofs

During that same time, I was also given in change 2 silver dimes and 1 silver quarter.

I did some calculating and found some interesting things:

The 90% silver halves make up 15% of the total coins, but 30% of the silver weight.
If I were to sell all of the coins for melt value and silver was a paltry $10 per ounce, I would make a 260% profit over my original investment. (Of course we won't talk about all the gas and time spent chasing these darn things!) Thus far, I have gathered 184.8 ounces of silver for less than half what a good friend paid in July for a 100 ounce bar! Sometimes, being obsessive-compulsive pays off!!!

My goal is to have 1000 40% and 200 90% by the end of the year. I think it is definitely doable. I'm going to try to get the same amount every year.

What a great hobby! Sure a lot cleaner than metal detecting!!!

I'll be looking forward to see what the others have collected. Keep up the great posts!

Re: Silver Totals for 2006 - WEEKEND TOTALS ADDED

I just got into CRHing again in July, and haven't gotten to search at all since mid-September, but I've found:
1-90% half
8-40% halves
1-90% dime (Coinstar reject)
2-war nickels

Re: Silver Totals for 2006 - WEEKEND TOTALS ADDED

Just started four days ago. So far from one bank I have purchased $200 in halves and found:

1-1964
2-1966
12-1967
4-1968
1-1969

four of the 20 rolls contained only bicentennial issues and are in great shape. Over half of the rolls contained pre 1974 coins only. Makes me wonder.

Re: Silver Totals for 2006 - WEEKEND TOTALS ADDED

Just found 13 more 40%ers for you to add to the totals HobBob.

Re: Silver Totals for 2006 - UPDATED 10/24/06 10:00 PM EDT

Will add my totals to the post after tomorrows boxes are searched. Cool post.
Lotta silver being harvested... wow.

Re: Silver Totals for 2006 - UPDATED 10/24/06 10:00 PM EDT

I am at work, so must go by memory.

I believe I have gone through somewhere between 2500 & 4000 dollars in halves.

Results are approximate:

Kennedys

85 40%

16 90%

4 Proofs

and 1 Walker

Still waiting on my first Ben, and my first Barber.

Re: Silver Totals for 2006 - UPDATED 10/24/06 10:00 PM EDT

Ok, just tallied up the year so far. ( Since May/June - I was a virgin till then)
Halves:
1964's - 60
40% - 313
Franklins - 53
Walkers - 38
Barbers - 2

Quarters - 14
Mercury Dimes - 9
Rosies - 31
Canadian Silver Dimes - 3

When I first started, I did dimes from the bank. Did well, but not as lucrative as the big Halves !
I ran CoolCash's program for my entire collection of silver coins... metal detecting included (nothing bought), and got a 1500.00 melt value. I like !

Happy searching.
