Hey all -

Found this today at an old farm that dates back to the late 1600's. Lots of horse-related stuff, big coppers, and then this thing:

Indian head cent for scale. It's heavy, maybe brass, but the front is very ornate and appears "washed" with silver. I've found old shoe buckles also washed (on top only) with silver at the same place... come to think of it, about 20-30 feet away from where I found this.

Any ideas? It has a small hole in the middle of the back of it, like maybe it fit on something.

Thanks in advance!

I believe it is part of a broken very-ornate Colonial Era shoebuckle, because it is silver-washed brass, and it has a pinhole at the crest of a "rolling wave shaped" flange. Note the same shape with pinhole on the shoebuckle in the photo below.

Yuuup! I concur. Gonna have to go back there and hammer that spot to find the other pieces. I actually found another intact silver-washed buckle not far away, but it wasn't as thick as this one:

Good job!
