I found this yesterday is a yard where we found targets from colonial to 1930s and everything in between. It is silver, approximately 1.5 inches by 1 inch, very thin and has a post mounted on the back. It's too big for a cufflink so I am at a loss. I'm not sure if it matters but the number "4" has been etched into the face opposite the post. Thanks for looking and good luck.

I see more etched or punched in to the back side...

ALLE? Maybe a signature or other etching right above that?

No idea what it could be.

"mya" is etched just to the right of "ALLE" but I can't make anything else out...

In the first pic it looks like the piece has a rolled up edge so that it could hold a mirror. Maybe the "ALLE" is supposed to be "ABLE" as in the word "Boilable" like on dental mirrors. My guess is some sort of dental or medical mirror.

Thank BCH. That was my old link to one I had IDed here. I know it might seem a stretch, but that rolled up edge is what caused me to think in that direction. I have looked thinking that there might be other designs of small mirrors similar to the dental mirrors. It most likely is not a dental mirror, but I think I could safely bet that there was a piece of glass/mirror on the front of this piece in question.

Good thinking but "alle" is definitely that and not "able". There is more to that stamp but it has worn away.

Rub a little black show polish across the back, and take another picture... you might be able to read it then.
