Hi again everyone!! Well, after a cold and s*itty Sunday, I headed out and about today to check out a tot lot and surrounding small park near where I live this afternoon. I have had my eye on this place ever since discovering it a few months ago. I wasn't really expecting to find much, just some clad for food or gas....boy was I in for a surprise!! Hit the lot, found plenty of clad. Then I decided to start working a small fairly isolated grassy area in the back corner of the park. About 5 minutes in, I get a wheatie at about 4 inches deep. "Cool" I think to myself as I recheck the hole....hmmm....ProPointer is still going off....something still there....a little more checking and presto! another wheatie.....recheck again, and still more!! Hmmm....something silvery....WHOA!!! A worn (but still nice) '44 Washington quarter!!! :o One more recheck yields a third wheatie. I had just stumbled on my first old time pocket spill, yielding 3 wheaties and a silver Washington!!! About 5 mins. after finding the pocket spill, and only about 3 feet away from it, I dug a beautiful '44 merc at about 4 inches. This isn't my nicest merc, but definitely 2nd best!! ;D I finished the day with 2 more wheaties and some really cool, old relics which include a rectangular metal tag that reads "property of Marshall Field & Co. Chicago ILL return to above firm(?) as soon as possible; a round metal tag that says "Marmon" and has 2 attachment points where it was held on to something; and a round coin-like object w/ heart shaped designs on it (homemade charm? homemade coin?), as well as a small heart charm. Coins for the day: '44 Washington quarter; '44 merc; 5 wheaties ('26, '40S, '47, '51, '56D). Clad totaled $4.37 (7 quarters, 17 dimes, 14 nickels, and 22 cents (all copper)). Thoughts and observations on todays hunt: the two silvers are nos. 14 and 15 for me this year....I'm hoping to break 20 or maybe even 30....the 14 nickels are a new one day record for me....also, dug NO zincolns today (YAY)....first time that's ever happened....does anyone have an idea as to how old the Marshall Field & Co. tag is? Or what the Marmon tag is from/how old it is? And what's the final thing?? I really have no clue on that one....pics below, enjoy!! ;D
