PROVIDENCE ... CARLTON O'BRIEN was a bookmaker here. As long as he used their wire service the mob let him operate. When the price went up he bailed out and established his own bootleg wire service. His bookies were robbed and his betting parlors were wrecked as a warning. His runnerS were also robbed and beaten.
