Getting my change back in the cafeteria at work today--- look down and see a shiny half and ask the teller if I can have it in my change.

First proof I have ever seen/held in my hand

Great Day so far

San Francisco --often made for collectors sets --check for silver content

frosted head proof from San Francisco mint -- check for silver content --these were made for special proof sets

Chances are it's an impaired proof at this point. It doesn't take much to put a noticeable mark on a proof coin.

What's an Impared Proof? Is it worth $10? Like circulated ones on EBay? Just curious

Impaired means it's damaged, as in numerous scratches.

The back field of the coin should look like a mirror. Minor scratches GREATLY decrease value.

Still a nice find.

Generally, circulated proofs have little collector value. Naturally, if it's silver, it will have some intrinsic value.
