I would suggest looking online for a ranch cobbler. Looks like a tabbed concho that went on some saddle work or bags, perhaps a riffle case. Instead of it having a single middle mount that later in time proved to be far more longer lasting it would of had 4 tab around the round edge that would have been back, slid through the leather work and then crimped over.
In other words, really halfass but still pretty cool looking. As for age, who knows, the cobbler our ranches employed was an old salty fella and he was great at leather work, even stitch art, but seriously stuck in his very old ways and would do stuff like that and claim it has been done like that for years. Like no kidding, no wonder we find them.
Anyway, that is my take on it; generally speaking I am often wrong about IDing found stuff on here.
But did you happen to find it near an old cattle drive trail? That where I always found mine, all the ranches we owned and we only had one that was part of the old Moonlight Trail, such items where common.
