Sleigh Bells Ring???

The picture below are of two sleigh bells I found at two seperate farm houses from the late 1800's

The bell on the left is from a house dated before 1878 (from a survey map) and the bell on the right is from a house dated around 1895.

The bell on the left is smooth with no design and the one on the right has a nice pattern...and YES, the still RING

Any experts on old bells, feel free to comment and give some history on them if you'd like
