It's been a slow week for silver finds this week (only a '67 Kennedy Half and a '42P silver nickel - so far) but I was just finishing searching the last 5 nickel rolls I bought yesterday and in the 4th roll I saw a very nice clear 1950 obverse so I was obviously hoping to see a D mint mark when I turned the coin over and sure enough I have just scored my very first 1950D nickel! :hello2:

And the coin is in great condition too. I'd say it's got to be in at least VF+ condition - it looks like it's just come out of someones personal collection. I'm not able to post a pic right now but maybe I can get a pic by the end of the month and if so I'll post it with my monthly totals - though I haven't had anywhere near the great half dollars finds that I did last month - but I wasn't expecting too either.

I think I got $56 in cents and $156 in nic's today to search for the weekend so I sure hope tonight's luck continues through the weekend and I can find some more nice keepers.

And I finally got around to opening a Chase acct yesterday so I should be able to start ordering half dollar boxes on a regular basis now. And I even placed an order yesterday for a half box so I should get it next week. Plus I'm going to get $125 cash back for opening the acct. :)

Good Job on the 50D it is without doubt the toughest nickel to find in the wild. I have only found 1 and I search a ton of nickels. Keep it up. Dennis.

Thanks Dennis. It sure was a rather suprising find. I'm trying to increase my nickel volume to around at least $50 - $60 a day but I still didn't expect to find a '50D anytime soon. This is definitely my find of the week. :)

How are you doing with the nickels this month yourself? Are you still doing a box a day? I know you found a lot of silver nic's last month and I hope you have more great totals for this month too. I hope you'll post your totals again for this month because I'd be interested to see how you are doing. :)

Congrats on the key date, very tough to find in the wild. I've only found 1 and it's in rough shape.

Thank You for asking. Yes I am still searching a box a day plus about 5 boxes of halves a week, So far this month I have 32 Wars hoping I can get 40 with still a few days left. I will be posting my Oct finds for sure. I just hope I can hold out for a full year.Good Luck and again congrats on the 50D that is one elusive little bugger. Dennis.

great find i havent found 1 yet whats tougher a 2009 p or a 1950 d nickle!Ide say they are about even!

That's strange you should mention that because I actually found a 2009P nickel in the very next roll I opened tonight (the 5th roll). But I've found a fair amount of '09's myself. For me '09's are about as common as finding silver nic's. So far this month I've found 4 x '09P, 1 x '09D and 3 silver nic's. :)

I doubt very seriously that they are equal in toughness. Give me the old nickel any day of the week (It has character), I don't even pull newer nickels unless there proofs. But to each his own.Thanks. Dennis.

I agree. I'd certainly much rather find a silver nic or any pre - '60 nic (except for maybe a '59D or '58D) than an '09 nickel. But I still keep the '09's because of the low mintage and because I haven't found too many - maybe only about a roll or so total in the past 2 years. :)

still no 50 d for me! nice job

Great accomplishment :icon_thumright: Nickels are so rewarding!!

Thanks. I like searching nickels too. I been increasing my nickel volume lately and I've had good luck with silver nickels lately too. I've found 5 silver this week and I have about 1 1/2 nickel boxes left to search this weekend and I'm hoping I can find a couple more silver by tomorrow.

I've been thinking I might try to search 5 nickel boxes and 5 cent boxes a week for a while and see how it goes. Maybe I'll try and search 3 nickel and 3 cent boxes during the week and 2 nickel and 2 cent on weekends. I want to see if I can average a roll (40) of silver nickels and 4 rolls (200) of wheat cent finds every month. :)
