I came across this one this morning on the beach. The fact that it is sandstone which is common in this part of Florida plus the groove, it looks like it could be a shaft straightener from the research I did on line. This is small enough to be held in your palm and run the reed or whatever wood they used for the shaft of the arrow at the time, back and forth to smooth it out.

Any thoughts?

Good Find! Looks similar. folder 2 012.webp

I don't want to be a party Pooper but unless that was found in a midden or with some solid context or associated artifacts it is way more likley to be a natural stone that just happens to be shaped that way. Our beaches are full of stones like that.

Woah old digger, that ones pretty cool! And mines, does not look like that! Gator i found it on a beach where surveys show there are middens. But there's zip up near the top of the beach, only a few scattered shells so I headed to the small shell piles.

You guys are right, it is just a natural stone. Oh well, into the garden!
