I"m posting these simple finds, to whet the appetite of those not able to go out yet.
There's nothing here to make you jealous, just to keep your hopes up, warm weather is
coming... sometime.

Feb 9th page.webp

I went out with a Collector01 and another friend on the 60 degree day.. T-Shirts!!! AHHhhh.
We didn't find too much, hit one of my spots and one of his. I got the spade padlock front at the
first place and the thimble and oil lamp part at the second. (Plume & Atwood Co.) What I did find was another friend who loves the
history and that's a rare find.

Then I went yesterday, in my leather coat this time, and it was a good thing.
I just hit places I have already hunted pretty well in town, close to home.
The first, I found the IH. Nice shape too.
The second, I found the Dog tags, buckle and buttons. But, I didn't let the homeowner know I was in her backyard. Not knowing I was there, she let out the dogs. I was attacked by four of the biggest dogs I've ever seen, and bitten by one of them on my wrist -
that's why it was good to have leather on. But teeth still went through... Big Dogs! whew! Got out OK.. but MAN!
Lesson # 1 - ALWAYS let them know you're there! (especially if they have carnivores)
Went to a third site after some quick first aid and found that neat lead seal. My first of those.
I'm not sure what it sealed. Anyone else know? I did find the Monogram or Company Cipher crossed H's, but no Co. info.

Nice job, ESM. I think it would be VERY boring for us up here if we didn't have you guys as the halftime entertainment, lol. J/k...maybe[emoji1]

I know, I love seeing other's finds when I can't get out. Then, I'm jealous, then I'm encouraged for when I do go, then I'm depressed, then I'm glad they posted....
It's a vicious cycle.. ;)

Nice finds, I bet you really upset the owner when there dog bit you. They are probably scared to death that your going to sue them. Seems like anymore nowadays its the great american dream, a real opportunity. I bet that was a little on the scary side?

OMGosh! They are good friends of mine. She came out when she heard the dogs, (Thank God!) but they weren't haven't any of settling down. I was backed up against the fence, working my way towards the gate, I had lost my shovel, and was using my detector as a kind of sword, like Erroll Flynn, waving it back and forth and saying "Now boys... settle down". and stupid stuff like that.
I had to leave as soon as I escaped because I was bleeding pretty good. (one bit my wrist through my jacket) So I went to the Firehouse, wrapped it up and got back to her quickly, because I knew she'd be sick about it. I think they were more worried I'd report the dogs.
But, it wasn't the dogs fault. I was in Their yard. I should have let her know.
Live and learn (hopefully on both counts).
When I got out the gate, I felt like the little boy on the Incredibles, when he survived that fall back in the jungle... "I'm Alive!?!"

So true for many of Us and some great treasure I would say. Sunday was one warm very nice day, but I came home with the mumbles!

What do you mean "... nothing here to make you jealous..."?
I would ask that you reevaluate that statement immediately sir, I am fairly sure that I am jealous of the IHC, the acorn dog tag and well... maybe that spade lock cover too.
Sorry to hear that you got dog bit.
GL&HH!

Oh Yeah.. I'm jealous of your nice pics with notations and scales too!

You're a riot. lol
I DID have to add a note of one of the posts above, because I know how I would have felt before I found my first IH.. LITTLE THING he says!!! AAAaaaarrrg!
I take it back.
Personally, I liked them all, that's why I kept them, but the lead seal is really neat. I have learned a bit more about seals since I found it. But still can't tell the Co. or exact use of that type. I also like the spade cover before I was sure what it was, just because it has a spade on it.

And thanks for the kind words. And I still love dogs..

Just not those dogs.

Glad you could squeeze in a hunt Chris. Looks like you made some nice recoveries, although I'm sure you would've liked to have dug some of the colonial variety.

Thanks Bill;
Collector01 took me to a field he had pulled Colonial off on the warm day, we had high hopes, we walked the ridges, but although I did find a pretty old bottle neck and some late 1800's artifacts, just the Thimble was older. I did have someone who saw me detecting Monday who offered to allow me to detect his farm. It's in a very promising area. I just have to see exactly where it is on the old maps. He says' there's an old site in the fields.. so I'm very hopeful. Maybe this one will just fall in my lap! It could happen...

Thanks. Generally, If I find even a wheatie, I figure "At least I didn't get stiffed."
Sorry yours wasn't better. It'll be better next time. HH!

Nice tags. I like that thimble too... is it silver?

Thanks for thinking about us snowed in folks. Neat finds. I have always been a fan of old locks and keys. Thanks again for the post.

Hey Higgy, Thanks!
The thimble is brass. I do have one that still has some silver plating on some of it, but this one shows none.

Sure thing Voodoo. Thanks.
I know I'm happy if I can't get out when someone is posting something to look at.. at least I can salivate over their finds.
I like the locks and keys as well, I find quite a few. I have over 40 regular keys, but only three skeleton keys. Would like to find more of them.

Glad your digging and finding nice finds! Also glad your encounter with the dogs was a minor one and that they didn't take a bite of your detector!

Thanks for thinking of us here in the frozen north!
Besides the claw marks on the walls, pools of drool on the computer screen, and an extreme loathing of white flakes falling from the sky, eliciting some choice words, we are hanging in there....but if you happen to run across the snow making machine... Is annihilate too strong of a word? :laughing7:

Thanks Ms; Leave it to me to have my steel shovel out of reach and defend myself with my plastic detector! But, tho it almost cost me an arm, it's safe.. AHhahahahah!
All you guys up North are funny.. But what else can you do, right?
I lived in New Hampshire for a couple of years, so I know what you're going through.
But since I am in my right mind (unless you talk to my wife) I left.

I hate to say this, but we are moving into the teens this week. Starting tom. nite here, and what is bringing that here is bringing you all more of the snow.. sorry.
Then we will all have to depend on our Carolina Toms to see us through.

So far I'm still not snowed in and I agree with Carolina Tom, I'm jelly over those finds too (of course I'm easily excited)
I'm glad your wounds were not so bad this story would have made the news. Also glad your not sue happy, nice to see there are still some nice people out there.

We went from 40 some yesterday to 11 degrees this morning.

It dropped here, but only low thirties during the day, but that's too cold for my joints and we've had rain where the north got snow, so the ground freezes. Not too deep, bu too much for my joints. So, since schools out, I got my grandsons.. that's as fun and just as rewarding. ;)

Still; hoping for warmer weather and older finds!, although, like Tom, I'll take whatever I can get cause I like em all! Still a lot of newer cons I don't have yet! Seateds, Barbers, etc.
HH guys, and if you can't go yet, hang in there, we'll have to rejoice with those who can.

wow, I don't have much to say to that so instead, enjoy this blueberry pancake recipe:

Ingredients
•2 eggs, separated
•1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
•2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
•3 tablespoons sugar
•3/4 teaspoon salt
•1 cup milk
•3 tablespoons butter, melted
•1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen, thawed

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 7 minutes

Total Time: 17 minutes
Yield: Makes About 1 Dozen

Preparation

In a small bowl, beat egg whites until stiff; set aside.

In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Beat egg yolks in a medium mixing bowl; add milk and melted butter. Stir egg mixture into dry ingredients; mix until batter is smooth and stir in blueberries. Fold in beaten egg whites.

Cook on a hot greased griddle on one side until the edge looks dry and bubbly and the bottom is browned. Flip the pancake and cook the other side until nicely browned.

Makes about 12 pancakes.
