Very cool! That’s a great find!!

Reminds me of a small crucible that was used to test ore .

Interesting find.

Is it made of stone or pottery?

It looks like the relic is thick on the base and thinner at the upper lip, is that correct?

Could it have been the very bottom of a larger pottery item?

Its a very nice find I think.

Thanks all for the comments and it’s stone - could be part of something bigger
That it broke off - yes thicker at base and thinner at top.

Maybe an herb grinding bowl.

Thank you, Gambrinus - that must be it. Looks exactly the same and it’s likely that mining sampling would be done in the area.

Would appreciate thoughts on this item I found today in the Southern Arizona desert. Very smooth and symmetrical "bowl" looking stone item. It's in an area where I've found native pottery.

I am curious bergie, where about in Southern Arizona did you find it?

I found it in Tucson along the West Bank of the Santa Cruz river (many native villages have been found there - now it is dry). Mining there too so it makes sense.

Great find, I'm also in search of my treasure

Yes there were many villages along the Santa Cruz. I heard about an area south of Green Valley that I would like to check out,but I haven't been back to Arizona for a few years. Hopefully soon I can get down that way.
