Afternoon,

Here is a neat little pencil drill I found. I find a ton of points around here, but I rarely find a good drill.

Not ground around the edges by any chance is it?

Morning,

It does give that appearance. It was found in a site with both paleo and newer components. A drill at all for me is rare though. Other folks here find them, but they seem always to elude me. Headed out this morning for a new spot...hoping for some fresh ground.

Cool little drill, I wonder what those were used for. Are the edges worn?

Well, here's why I had to ask. I have found 3-4 items that appear very similar locally. They appear to be small pencil drills at first glace, usually 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" long. However, the ends are rounded and inspection shows that they obviously wouldn't drill that great. I've also noticed the edges are ground on the majority, some very heavily ground. They are puzzling, as to their use. I'm wondering if they aren't some type of adornment such as labret, or nose plug, or even a type of gorge. Anyways, I find items such as that incredibly interesting.

i have found a couple over the years that are very similar.Matt are you refering to labrets as face peircing or body peircings?i often thought maybe they were used for clothes pins or maybe a hair pin.

I was thinking for facial (lip or nose) piercing. Like you mentioned they could have also been fasteners or for some other function also.
