small shield with motif

hello all , I found this at an old colonial cellar site its about an inch and a half long by an inch wide . I'm not sure of its composition but its very grey in color like pewter , its almost impossible to see but there's a motif on the front that looks like three feathers or plumes standing up out of a crown . on the back there's two round raised nubs that looks like where it was fastened to some kind of ferrous metal . any thoughts or ideas ya might have , I'd be interested in hearing . thanks Del
