First, the little earring. It wasn't too much of a surprise to me because I figured it to be silver. But, when I washed it off it sort of confirmed that for me. Thought I'd share.

2nd, the iron thingy. If I don't get a answer here I'll be posting to the What is it forum.

The neat thing about it is that when I found it it was literally just a lump of VERY rusted iron. No details at all. I soaked it for about a month in vinegar and viola!

I have a ... thing. :) LOL

I thought it was a hammer head at first, but I don't see where any handle would attach. It was found along a rocky trail near what used to be an iron works facility. Maybe 1850's?
Weighs about half a pound.

I am very impressed what simple vinegar can do! I might not eat salads anymore! LOL

Any thoughts?

HH!

At 1/2 lb....it seems a bit heavy but might be an old plumb bob...

Maybe a pin for a backhoe bucket?

I think your iron piece is a vintage cast iron scale weight. Neat finds :) Breezie

Is there a hole on the other end from the groove?

Near as I can make out, there's no other indicator on this piece. No holes, or maybe stub where it broke off something. Not even one that might be hidden by all the corrosion.
An iron weight seems the most likely as this point. Funny, I did not even see anything that looked like a groove in this thing until after the vinegar bath. :)

Thanks!

A scale weight just seems correct to me. The groove was intentional and it being just short of 1/2 pound makes me think this is right. Probably lost the couple ounces to rust.

Thanks!
