Fisher CZ-70 Pro , Fisher CZ-20 , Minelab Explorer SE
Drove about an hour north last week to detect an old drive in movie theater that was used from 1952-1958. I have thought about checking it for Years but always put it off as I thought there wouldn't be much since it has been hit by other detectorist years before. Turns out I should have taken the time to check it before! After a few hours of searching I ended up with 7 silvers coins and 12 Wheat pennies and a Awesome Buffalo Nickel! :icon_thumleft: The silver coins were 2 Washington Quarters, 3 Merc Dimes, and 2 Roosevelts.

Just depends on the site I suppose. This area is over grown and is pretty much just a remote unused field, I can't imagine anyone caring that I detect it. I would recommend you try to get permission just to play it safe.

was it a very trashy site? i was thinking of hitting the old drive in down the road from my house just the other day.... congrats on the silver :hello2: :hello2:

Digger, any problems with buried wires? I've often wondered about that. ffd

Good question, no problem with buried wires. However you will probably come across some of the speaker poles still in the ground. Usually after they theaters closed they came in and just ripped the poles from the ground and most of the time pieces of them are still buried deep. You will probably have trouble checking around those areas where the poles were but thats about it.

Definitely check it, especially if its that close! I had no problems with trash at all. In fact I dug probably less than 20 trash items, if that. However, Im sure the trash will vary from Drive in to drive in. The longer the drive in was open the more trash you can expect to find. Good luck at yours, let me know what you find!

2 old drive ins.... in my area and the owner won't let me detect them!..ughhhhh

great job Justin, I have hunted an old drive in before, and found silver too. I am trying to get permission on another one. I'll let you know when, if you want to go with me. Ken

Good finds digger!! I was talking about a drive inn at the last meeting with your mother!!!

I used to work for a company that built outdoor drive inns,, use to travel all over the midwest and out east and rebuild them and paint the screens.

And also put up brand new ones!! It was a fun job,, there is silver all over those parking lots ,,the back row was really famous,,

And you can guess for what!!! :laughing9:
