Howdy Folks. A few folks and myself included are interested in the two headed snake ring I recovered from some Maple roots along a river bank yesterday. I really like the "gaudy" coolness of this old ring. Designed for a pirate or treasure hunter. Basically the same thing. One just has a bit more ethics.

My question about the ring is how old might it be and who may have designed or manufactured this ring? Anyone with any experience or who has seen a snake ring like this one please chime in and share what you know. There appears to be NO stamp marks anywhere on the ring. I believe it was originally silver plated and a brass composition. It is a bit hefty for a ring. No clue as to the "rock" in the ring? Thanks for any and all help identifying the ring. Kurios1

I can't help you with the age and maker of the ring but the stone may be very old Moonstone. However, it has the appearance of Mother of Pearl but I believe it is too thick to be that and also looks similar to a Kyanite Cabachon that was ground down across the grain instead of with the grain.

Is there any color to the stone as you move it around ?
Looks like labradorite from the pics.

As I move the angle of the ring it appears to change colors from a green to blueish. Kind of weird how the colors seem to change as you change the angle of the ring in the light.:icon_thumright:

It looks like it has the potential to be pretty old to me. Awesome find.

Yeah, I have a feeling that it may be mid-1800's and something a Steamboat Gambler might have worn but not being sure, I really did not and could not date it.

It kinda looks like a 70's to 80's mood ring to me...

It looks like it could be something worn by one of those saloon girls you always see in the old westerns. It also looks to be in a little bit too good condition to be dropped in the 1800's though, maybe a more recent drop or a new ring made to look old? The plating is so worn I could picture it being used for one hundred years before being dropped. It looks 1880's-1920's style. Good luck with the ID, Awesome find!

I suggest getting a jeweler to verify, but this ring absolutely screams late Victorian to my eye.

Queen Victoria's engagement ring was a snake making snake rings all the rage around the turn of the 20th C.

That is a super cool ring. If it were mine, I'd get it repaired and give it to my favorite girl.
