🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Snake skull brooch?

Found this in Lovejoy Ga where civil war took place. Lots of artifacts found in the area and this piece washed up from the rain. It looks like a brooch (loop on back) of a skull(side view) with a snake wrapped around it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe it has something to do with the day of the dead? I remember something about a skull and snake imagery being used for that. Other than that I can't think of where else that imagery is common place besides the modern era of tattoos.
