Yippee!
Boss just called and I got tonight off also!

Had a wonderful adventure trying to get there last night. Now I know why the cops close the roads when it gets this way. Because they didn't want anyone to see how many of them got stuck last night. Saw more of them stuck than anyone else. One or more even tried to get me stuck, but I'm a big boy behind the wheel and respond in kind.

Okay, okay, hats off to them for being there, but I still had to cuss out a couple and almost run down one of 'em to get back home.

Mrs. Lowbatts and I were the first ones on the block to reach the street today! Shovels in hand, we even beat those poor souls with the tiny snow blowers.

Stay warm folks and remember, sledding hills are on!

Lake Shore Drive was crazy last night. We walked to the lake to see the 25FT waves and ended up pushing cars out of snow drifts. Busses, cops, plows... all backed up. I have to say, if you know snow is coming, put your RWD vehicle away folks. City should have closed LSD much sooner than they did though. Wind was 70MPH off the lake.

Happy snow day, people!!!

The world is falling apart and all we see is team coverage of snow in Chicago.... :icon_scratch:

Hey Tim, did you get a silver car? ;D

Best snow pic so far of the season. How the heck they managed this one is beyond me, but never fear, the Geek Squad is on the scene!

Life out here in the country was brutal this morning, even this grader couldn't break through the
drifts next to my house

holy cow rich, i'm glad i left when i did. i thought my chest high drifts were bad.

Not much snow down this way, lots of ice though, the trees really took a beating with the wind last night.
Saw many downed trees and limbs today,a few on roofs of houses, noticed the old guy at the edge of town had a limb through a window and his guttering was ripped off the west side of his house, quite a mess..
The main problem seems to be the loss of electricity, very widespread, have heard many will be without for three plus days....and with the frigid temps it will be tough for those peeps for sure.
Luckily I only had a few flickers of the lights lastnight...however I have a generator so now worries here...

These are not much but what I managed to shoot this evening...

Since I grew up in northern Illinois (Lake County) and though I live at the IL/WI border, I'll always consider Illinois home for me.

The news pictures of all the cars recently stranded/buried on LSD look the same as a picture from the 1967 blizzard. I think it was Ch 5 (Chicago) that did a side-by-side comparison on this morning's news ...

Anyway, we got 23.2" Tues. night into Weds. morning. Since the plows still haven't come through the cul-de-sac, there's no sense in snowblowing the solid 3' of it in my driveway ... just to go nowhere. The gf was making snow angels in the middle of the road. :icon_thumleft:

In the last hour, they finally opened Green Bay Rd (south) heading into Zion, Illinois. Slow progress, but expected, considering the amount of snow that fell.

Well, it's yet another snow day for me ! :coffee2:
