Went out for the second time this season hunting an older homestead. Most likely early 1900's, late 1800's. One of those sites where you just know there will be relics and coins. This place was no different. Started out finding a new key on the very first dig. Hmm...Now to find the safe :o Went on to find a 45 wheatie in the same area. Working my way towards the earlier years I then discovered a trash load of Mason Lids (I hate those things). Although they do suggest you are in the right area.
I then kept at it when I hit a part of a pocket watch, just the back part. After this I went towards the small side yard in hopes of getting a silver coin. Well that is exactly what happened. Nice penny/dime signal and out pops a 1917 Merc. That was the first close one. Dreams of the elusive 1916D...Gone....On to the front yard and out popped more wheatbacks. I found a couple that I just could not see any date on them. Put them in the jar and took them home for later cleaning. A couple more later date wheaties and then out popped another pocket watch. This one still has the mechanisms still visible inside. No idea what year these were produced.
Found a couple other relics along the way too. The two pins/ broaches came from the front yard. No dates/names on either one. Maybe some of you will recognize them. After a full day of detecting I went home and used some peroxide on the wheaties to find I had a 1909 in my hand. My hair stood on end briefly when I found that there was no mint mark and no VDB. Just another close call but I am getting closer to the elusive key date! Hope all your detecting is paying off..Until the next close call Goodluck out there.... ;D jgas

Those are some nice looking finds.

I love to find those crotal bells. That back for the watch is very nice also. Those are the types of finds that built a nice collection.

Cool finds, if you're finding stuff like that there's got to be more goodies hiding there.
