Havnt been able to buy a box of halves in awhile.....but i was just in awe when i heard this....

So i walked in to deposit a check, and i asked if they happened to have any weird/older coins........they said yes but our banks policy is to not give out collectable coins.....we cant even buy it anymore. We even have an 188x Morgan dollar and we cant buy it.

So.....can banks do this?
Dont get me wrong....if i were a bank....and i had the options of telling my tellers to cull silver for me i would......but since i had never heard this before i assumed there must have been a law against it or something....anyway........ ?

A teller can mean a lot of things when they mention "our bank's policy".

It could mean that it is a corporate rule; a State or Federal law; or just that the manager has dibs on all silver !

Never waste time on silver you can't get. There's plenty of the other kind.

Keep on Rollin' !

Yah, i left that bank long ago....i have a different one now, only problem here is every bank is asked for money to order boxes....so finding one is few and FAR between atm.

Sounds like the branch manager might be a collector if the tellers can't even buy.
