Het Everyone,
This is the cleanup from the last few times out panning around Lake Allatoona in Ga. You can see what was winking back at me from my bucket sluice, and I thought it might be a good looking cleanup. Unfortunately this is the second time in a row that I've pulled mercury out with it. I dont know if you can see it in the photos or not but its there. I read somewhere that someone too a coke can cut in half, filled it with lighter fluid, dumped the gold in and lit it. Im tempted to do that to see if it will make this mercury disappear. Any thoughts on the coke can idea?

That is really nice gold now you said that was from couple of times how long did it take you to get that much as far as the mercury go to thrift store get old pot put gold in it outdoors of course lol put on grill or hot plate stay down wind from it and let it burn off

Ya I love the look of the high purity GA gold. It was from three times out and took about 7-8 hrs total maybe more. Just sucks you can only use a pan in the allatoona area.

Yea that's true but looks good anyway got to love the gold lol bet if you were able to dredge you would clean up but the main thing is just have fun

You have to love seeing gold in your pan. Very nice! There isn't much to find here in Oklahoma. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

Mercury is easy to burn off. Just like the others have said, get an old small skillet, put it out in the open backyard on a propane camp grill, stand aways back and cook until golden... I'm sure Hoser John's method of the coke can and lighter fluid is just as efficient, just haven't tried it...

Burning off mercury in the open air is NOT cool, those vapors can travel a long way. Google or Bing "removing mercury from gold" and I'm sure you will find much safer ways of doing it. That's a nice haul for a few short stints on the lake shore. Keep up the good work.
