Military Great Seal button .. design runs ~1900- present (1906 i think)

Looks like a U.S. Army great coat button. I believe they range from at least World War 1 time frame up through the 50s, and maybe the 60s. Yours looks older to me; guessing around WW1. Disclaimer: I am not a button expert, just regurgitating what I have seen on forums before. Either way, nice find! :hello2:

It says something on the back like " ???? City button" or something like that...hard to tell.

If you could take a better pic of the back so we can see the back mark we could narrow down the age.

there's a thread in the What is It forum just for these great seal button backmarks(think its titled "Great Seal Backmarks").... it'll be one with nearly 200 replies and might not be on the first page... either way, if you find it, they're compiling a list of all the known backmarks for this button... the most recent list will be on the second page of replies towards the end and if yours is listed it should narrow the age

I had the macro on and I don't think I could get a much better pic but I can certainly try.

It is a modern US Army Coat button, 1902-present. The same button is on the uniform jacket in my profile picture.
