Found it near an old colonial road bed. It is brass and dense. Appears to be melted in a fire. I thought it was a sword pommel but its way to heavy and no other sword pommel in the world looks like this thing :sadsmiley: One reason I thought it was a pommel : there seams to be melted brass wire stuck on the item. It looks like really small pieces of angel hair pasta. I have seen swords that have wire mess holding the handle material together. Screw hole on the bottom.

Could be a melted transformer coil-- that would explain the melted look and the small wires fused to it. Except the original wire in a transformer coil should be pure copper, not brass. That could change if there were other metals (ie zinc) in close proximity during the fire.
