I am really stumped on this one. I have had this little boxed set for years - came from a local university. They look like some type of optics - do they go in a microscope or something? The little one has a glass window in the side. The bigger one has a red dot under a round "window". Sure hope someone knows what they are!

Does look like an eyepiece? Maybe a set for changing the magnafication?

I was a microscopist at a university. This does not look like a part of a microscope. Maybe a surveying transit or a navigating instrument for a boat? The larger one does look like it fits on the eyepiece of some instrument.

Transit parts was my guess too. They used to come in that style of wood box, maybe try Keuffel&Esser i believe was a popular brand of transit.

labels on the wooden box would be helpful
