Some kind of solid metal ore? Help Please!!

Found this the other day. Its magnetic but not like your normal chunk of steel. Any info would be much appreciated. please and thank you.

I was thinking it might be a meteorite.. Its very heavy for its size.. I've compared it to other chunks of steel it size and it's definitely a lot heavier.

Looks like it came out of a smelter. Air bubble pockets indicative of this. If it was a nickel iron meteorite it would probably be darker. Pueblo, Colorado at one time produced 90% of all railroad steel rail west of the Mississippi River.

Thanks ecmjamsit. I also thought of that as well., Would you happen to know how long ago that was? I've been looking at photos of smelted metals and can't find anything much like this one.. Also.. Wouldn't you think a chunk of shelter iron would be pretty much rusted away after so many years of weather exposure? I found a few other smelter ores that I swore were stones, but they had shiny balls of,metal sticking out of them with absolutely no rust visible. I can gauntee you that the "slag" I found isn't a day younger than fifty years.. and barely any rust? man.. thAt pills hard to swallow. But a geologist confirmed it was slag. check out my other forums and you'll see what I'm talking about. But I am wondering what kind of slag it could be if not rusted away after all these years. Sure Could use some insight on that topic. But anyways Thanks again for your input. Truly appreciate it.

Hi Matt, me again. Looks like another piece of slag

Its hard to tell for sure from the photos, maybe because my iPad distorts them when I blow them up full size, but I'm relatively certain, and as another person mentioned, it's due to the faux vesicles (bubbles). Is there a history of manufacturing in the area where you found this? Was this found near the other samples from your other post?

And in the slight chance I'm wrong with the slag identification, are there any hot springs/geysers near where you found this?

Scrap metal slag can have an assortment of metals. If they are adding recycled metals you could have a little of everything. For example if it is from crushed cars, you could have zinc, copper, iron etc. That is what I think you have. Could have been a World War 2 tank for example. Or parts from a plane.

Hey cerF., No I live in the Kiron Iowa area.. I had no knowledge of smeltering Iron, lead and Zink in iowa.. or slag for that matter. I really thought I had something this time. haha. But all in all the learning experience was well worth it. Exploring and collecting strange things like, rocks, metals, minerals, artifacts, stone tools.. etc.. is what I do on my spare time. Unfortunately I haven't stumbled upon a anything valuable yet. lol But I went a ahead and collected half of a five gallon bucket of which i know now is slag. I must say it's some good looking slag.. lol and the chunk of metal I thought was a meteorite I'm still gonna clean up and shine. It has a nice blue tint to the metal which I think is the zinc?
