Finally got out yesterday, back to the early 1800's dairy farm. Conditions were dry. Pickings were slim. Nails were found... LOTS of nails. Here's the 'good stuff':

The drawer pull has a silver patina, doesn't it? But it doesn't have that 'ring' of silver when I drop it to my desk. So what is it? Tin? Looks too old and fancy to be aluminum:

I'm assuming it's a drawer pull, by the way (maybe from something small, like a jewelry box). If anyone has any other ideas let me know.

I think it's similar to tin. Dug many pie tins and TV dinner trays. They never corrode.

If its sterling it could be the handle off a silver serving tray... or at least thats what my first gut feeling was when I saw it ??

sure is a cool piece...congrats !!

I am thinking that it is the top handle off of an antique table cruet.

interesting piece you have there
I'm in the tableware camp...tureen lid handle if I was a betting man
good show!

Its looks silver to me
not a drawer pull - probably belongs to some sort of tea service set

smooth area in middle of handle looks to be to allow to be engraved - they normally dont engrave tin

IMO... not a drawer pull... from sterling serving tray.

Very nice assortment of finds- Congrats!

I'm thinking of something along these lines:

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Definitely worth doing a silver test on it. I doubt is a drawer pull since those are usually solid.

I don’t think I would expect something that size and shape to “ring” when dropped like a silver coin would....

Generally speaking the larger the item, the deeper sound it will make. Take for example piano wires or xylophone keys. Also, the vibrations that make the sound will move through an item that’s big and hollow much differently than something that’s small and solid.

You can order a bottle of JSP acid and a scratch stone for like $10.
