Secured a new colonial farm permission a few weeks ago but owner says it was hunted before. It sure looks that way as I have covered lots of ground looking for early activity and the only noteworthy finds are the arrowhead, possible colonial era leather ornament, and an indian. Also hit the water site today where I got the cob last week. Found a toasted KG III Hibernia and two pewter buttons with huge shanks that look 1720ish(same as cob) to me Thoughts?

A good day in my book. How long did you hunt?

Looks good to me, too. The button and point are nice.

These finds cover three different hunts over the past week but I have hunted the colonial farm pretty hard five separate times covering at least ten hours

The silver colored piece you called a button is the leather ornament(see pic of back). It appears to be of tombac material and at least two hundred years old if you ask me. The smaller buttons have huge shanks but Im not as familiar with dating pewter buttons as I only find them in good condition when water hunting. I think the huge integral cast shanks make them at least early 18th century but I may be wrong

Your right its an 18th C Horse Harness decoration. It had an iron pin & the metal I'm unsure of (just call it copper-alloy), but I'm pretty sure your seeing the tinning of the outer coat. Made it look silver when new.

Would these more ornate ones serve the same purpose and date to 18th century as well. Ive found lots of more plain ones like the original one in this post, though not as in nice condition, but only these three more fancy ones

Yes I believe so, but those type are flat on the back with an iron pin not domed, so I'm only 80% sure.(18th C)

Nice finds. I like that Quartz point.

I have two of the exact same harness decorations from the ES. I thought they were heavy for buttons lol.

Very nice finds, congrats! :occasion14:
