The hinge and catch assembly is certainly nothing older than late 20's early 30's, but given the "mousetrap" style hinge, it is more likely mid 20th century......1970ish?

Of course I hope I'm wrong and its date 1700's. LOL........but I doubt it.

I would say that it is a Cameo pin for a Ladies dress or coat. Not sure what the Cameo itself is made of but considering that the backing appears to be faux Onyx possibly made from ceramic or porcelain glazed with a type of black paint which when fired was likely glossy like Onyx and originally extremely hard, I would think that the Cameo is made of a similar composition. I am likely wrong but the pin appears late Victorian era.

Straighten a safety pin... heat point until red... touch to inconspicuous area on back of pin.

IF slides into it easily... tis a resin / plastic.

It's not resin/ plastic haha. It's like a plaster material or stone
