Some type of grinding stone or hammer?

Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post. Found this in central Ms in an area known to have many Native American artifacts. Was wondering if anyone could assist me in identifying whether or not this is even an artifact and if so what it may be. Thanks in advance.

Wow, so archaeological in nature. The Six Nations Indian group was Iroquois, according to my psychic sense.

The clay pots are really nice , are they both intact ? Rare to find them unbroken how did you come across them ?

I think the larger one is likely missing a tall neck, similar to a bottle neck. The smaller one that is more detailed is missing a portion of the rim at top. It’s easier seen in this photo. They were both found in a creek after a very bad storm with a lot of rain and flooding. Have also found some shark teeth and arrow heads here as well. View attachment 1797829

I'm on the fence with the item in post #1. It may be a pestle or it may be a torrentially worn piece--a geofact.

The sides seem natural, but each end seems well used and is worn in a way that leads me to believe it was used for some type of grinding.

I’ll also mention that quite a few years back a perfectly in tact pestle and mortar were found very near where this was found.

It looks like a grinder / pestle , once again those pots are amazing I would put them in a safe place ... most people only find small pieces of them. The chances of them remaining intact after so many years is unreal. I would be back out in that creek looking for more artifacts

We try to check it out after big rains when we can. Those are the only 2 unbroken clay pots we’ve ever found but we find tons of shards on each trip. Thanks for the info

the pestle is not like those found in my area. but that does not mean the are not pestles, what is the material of the item?

where the pottery items found in a washout or did you do some probing?

Not sure on the pestle but it’s some sort of white colored rock or stone. The pottery was found in the creek within 50 yards of each other about 6 months apart. Each after a big rain. One was completely washed up sitting on the bank and the other was about half covered in sand but exposed enough to see from a distance in the center of the creek.

I'm going to say your in N.E. MS. The pots can't be associated with a certain tribe but the one with the scrolling is it wet or did you apply something. I look for that pattern in my books and if I find it I'll post it on here. Great finds for sure and rare to find not broken in a creek.

I’m in west central ms. The wet looking pot is actually wet in that particular photo, that was right when it was found in the creek. But there is a link to another picture of it as it appears dry in the post above with shark teeth, not sure why it posted as a link. I would really appreciate some information if you do find any. Knowing now where you are that is Coles Creek period pottery , it could be part of the Anna phase. I'm in Natchez MS and the grinding tool I believe is a natural stone that fit just right for the purpose of grinding.

I'm guessing now your from Vicksburg up through Greenville area. The same fossil layer goes across the state. The bluffs and hill's really did some sluffing off this season. I plan on going to my place this Friday.
