some WW II eifel founds

Here a few founds off me from several months back, post them now because i wasn't a member off this site at that time.
All the relics were found in the eifel region were German an US troops fought hard in the autumn/winter off 1944/45...now it is a beautifull and peacefull area.
we spent a week holliday there and had search for several hours in total.
We had loved it to go longer but the weather was terrible most off the time.
But afther all we did some nice finds, the second day i get a small beep and it begins with a nice US gasmask..but 20 minutes later i had dug up 10 off these, most in pretty good condition.
At the bottom lays an US messtin, gloves and several smaller things.
The next day we found two 105mm shells, a German and US shovel,a few granades and other munution, a German barrel laying in his original container and later the standard for the machinegun.
Unfortunately we had to stop explorations due to winter conditions, also now we wait til the winter is gone and the temperature is better.

I've been fascinated with WWII since I was a kid, and I'd give anything to detect in an area like this!

that is a lot of digging! Tell me what do you do with all them ww2 finds like this? I mean you must have a garage full of stuff..keep posting I really enjoy looking at them digs!

thank you, it is indeed a beautiful area for search, but also to spend a holiday.
I keep the most of the finds for myself, I have two nice spaces for it where I created a little exhibition.
but it is already quite full



we found next to a big foxhole a stove with which people in the cold winter trying to keep warm
These things are too heavy to take with us...it stays were it was for over 65 years.

Do you ever get worried about digging and handling unexploded munitions?

I was looking at the pick ax. Is it US? I own one similar to that, but am not familiar with the marking.

Is it getting harder and harder to find WWII stuff, or is there plenty still left in the Ardennes?

Digging live shells happens often. Finds were reported to something similar to Your Bomb Squat. They come and pick them up.
Just be careful when You dig.... The most of the ammo in the pics are "Blown Thru". The fuze has ignited the filling, but only the bottom was blown out leaving it nearly complete, just without explosives inside. Nothing to fear and ready for display.
The Pickaxe is german, stamped 1938. Good quality, forged steel made before war. Ready for use with a new stick in it...
As You can see in the pics, a lot of ammo and only a few personal things. Yes, it IS harder to find something good.
Research is all. And a lot of time walking in the woods. There is plenty left, but getting it is hard...twenty years ago it was much better.

But yes ... there is still enough but it takes a lot of searching
The advent of the Internet has not done well, there are now very much (young ) seekers.
Sometimes you'll find not much but you always have a fun day..

Those are awesome finds. My father was in WWII. He brought home a few small things which we still have and a German bazooka. He got rid of it in 1966. Would love to dig over there, but the plane ride would be awful.
