I know these have been posted before, but here are some pics that might help some folks out on furure ID's. Here is a three ringer with an unusual design.

The area this was recovered wasn't known for fighting, but is in very close proximity to the Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Wilderness battlegrounds, and lies directly in the path from the camp, to the battlefield. I've recovered about 50-60 bullets from this area, and the vast majority have been "drops". I'm speculating that someone wasn't expecting company, and a few quick rounds got fired off, this one ramrod and all.

it might be that the barrel had a little rust in it and the soldier had to beat the bullet dow the bore to seat upon the powder. you didn't dare fire the weapon with an unseated bullet as this tended to burst the barrel. pretty cool though.
