I can't read the first word on the back of this button. I can see a VA & a R or N that appear to be the first three letters. It says "something" in gold surface...what would be in gold surface? Varnished in gold surface? I've heard of gold guild or plate not varnish. I'll try to get a better pic...button is soaking in olive oil now. You can just see the word gold below the shank & the word surface below gold. The writing is the same on top of the button. Above gold it says "in" & above "in" is a mystery...Thanks in advance!

Any marks on the other side?

Had to use a magnifying glass to get this pic, best I can do with cheap camera. I believe it says Van-Wart....maybe what I'm thinking says "in" really says "inc"? Was a English manufacture who started in the 1820s...seeing lots of Confederate Civil War buttons that say Van Wart on the back. Would this be considered tomback? 28536646976_dff299f16c_o.webp
