Hey All,
I wanted to share a problem and it's effect on me.I've had many injuries over my life. But never would have thought that being on the computer for long amounts of time would cause such a problem.
A couple months ago I started having numbness in my small finger & ring finger. At the begining I didn't think much about it and kinda shook it off.As it would come and go.But before I knew it with in a month or so it began to stay numb all the time.At the end off the third month I'm on now I have no feeling at all in small finger or ring and I'm left with a hand that wants to stay curled up & throb constantly.
So I go and see a Doctor for the first time last week who explains what I'm most likely looking at but test will have to be done to confirm it.(cubital tunnel syndrome)
Yesterday I had the test done which is not all that pleasant as it consist of taking a needle about 3" and sticking it in muscles all up and down the arm & hand and having to resist against pressure with them stuck and jabed up and down in the muscle at the same time.
The other part of the test is taken what looks just like a cattle prong for shocking cows and having them shock different parts of the arm.To test conductivety in the nerves.
It turns out that 50% and higher is normal.
Mine turned out to be 80% above the elbow but only 43% just below.A big difference in such a short area.
Theres many things that can cause this sleeping on it wrong for a long time, repeditive motion, proping on it,some have spurs that grow it the cubital wall, and some have were the nerve sorta just floats back and forth over the elbow joint.
I'm purdy sure mine has come from long times at the computer proping and leaning. As it's the only thing that has changed in my life style over the last year or so.
But the main thing is to catch it early and change your ways and is why I wanted to write this maybe it can save someone ahead of all the pain.
Now I'm looking at surgery for trasporting the nerve.I may not get all the use back in my hand/fingers is what I'm told but should keep it from getting worse.(Again catch it early).
They've already got me loaded with all kinds of pain Meds. so it's eased that problem some. But hear surgery can be a little painful it self. We'll see.
Take Care All,
Pete
