I believe I've found a section of a modern school ground where something besides modern day schooling has gone on.

I posted the bullet recently but I could use some help in pinning down age. Fair to middlin' white patina, a bit of a hollow at the base. Looks like it came out of a straight bore. (guessing)

The button pieces may be familiar to someone. Any comments welcomed.

Thanks!

HH!

Went to work for a friend teaching until they found someone in a small south Texas town. Nearly fainted when gunfire broke out about noon(just before lunch). Seems that everyday the sheriff would stop by, shoot any rattlesnakes that were around the school(they lived under the buildings) so the kids wouldn't get bitten on their way to lunch. Seemed reasonable to me, sometimes went a week without a snake being killed. So I assume that maybe bullets are not goimg to be too rare there or maybe anywhere else. As for buttons, well most teachers had safety pins, hair pins and straight pins in there rooms. Sort of emergency stuff for the kids and sometimes each other. Lots of buttons got lost at every school I was in...

I thought because of the title....you had found some Merry Widows Tins....LOL

The thing about these is that they don't appear to belong to the age of the school. I'm trying to figure out the age of the patch of ground I found. Age, meaning the age of the items and what might've been going on here.

Thanks!

No, no, no, my detecting was in a field, not the gutter. LOL!!!!

I'd say you have found yourself a nice little spot there. Keep workin' it and it's hard to say what else might turn up:occasion14:

Hi Whadifind,
That button backmark, "Horstmann & Allien" dates from 1850 to 1877. Your US Army button is one I can't find in my book, and without the back and the center of the shield, we don't know if it was to a specific division or general service. That straight, long neck on the eagle is different from anything pictured in my book, sorry! Great finds, Sub
