One of my supply banks just called me and said a customer brought in $500 worth of halves today, and would I want to take those tomorrow along with my box order. Now we all know that when one customer brings in that magic number of $500 in one shot that 99.9% it's a dump, but this bank is very good to me, and just the fact that they thought of me first made me say yes without hesitation. I'm not excited about having an extra $500 to dump, but it wont kill me, and she seemed kind of happy that she didn't have to ship them out.

The moral - sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

take the lady for all shes got. maybe you got someones dump who is an idiot and weighs the rolls haha

I have a supply bank that gives me all the halfs they get, plus my boxes every week. About a month ago they had a couple of $500 dollar dumps, that they saved for me. Well i found nothing in them. The last time I was in there they said they had my boxes and some rolled. I asked if the rolls were from the same guy, they said yes. I took them any way, and found 4/. 40s. You just never know. You did the right thing , buy taking them. HH

the common number I often hear from different banks is $490 - so I suppose this/these dumpers are finding a few keepers in their hunts.

But there is one bank in town that has a customer that regularly brings in $500 half bags (may be someone from this forum). I don't even bother with those - I just get the loose halfs from the tellers trays which has yielded me several keepers the past few months from this bank.

I do the same thing Cards. If they call or save ANYTHING for me I'll take it. That way they don't think "well, he didn't take the last ones so maybe he won't want these".

I have a couple banks taht call me any time they get halves, ikes or old bills. One of them saved me 3 SAEs and charged me $1 each thinking they were dollars.

I know it is a pain to imagine picking up coin that you know are dumps just to ... Dump them.

The way I look at it is this though, (your area is probably soo much bigger than mine that this maybe doesnt even apply to you-not sure) I know if applies to me though, I have marked coins before out of curiosity, and I recieved them in boxes, as little as 2 weeks later.. I encourage a bank to call me when someone brings in halves, just so I can pick them up and dump them somewhere other than my Pick up supply.....

Question I have is this cards-Do you find that you still have to search them "just in case they missed one"? I usually do, and I get a headache doing it, but ever once in a while I will allow myself to be smart about it, and just dump the dumps...

I would never just dump them without searching them.

Your odds don't look good, but for the relationships you have and the volume you do, an extra box to pickup and dump won't be too harsh. You can look on the bright side and hope for the other 1%, you just never know, it's holiday season.

Best of luck to you!
HH and happy holidays!

good man!

It's always best to clean them if you ask and especially if they offer! I always do the same.

You have just saved some of your favorite tellers a boat load of work. Each CWR that come into a branch needs to be verified before it can be sent out to the currier. By selling them to you she/he did not have to count 1000 coins.

To me this is a lot cheaper than buying flowers or chocolate, and accomplishes the same.

I had the same thing happen to me. Had to dig a little deeper into my wallet to buy them, and every roll was marked with a big black X. I scratched my head a bit when I saw a '64 ender face up in the box. It was the only silver in there, but I'm not complaining :) Especially since the two boxes I ordered were skunks, lol.

Cards,
Yep, just go for it. You never know what you might luck out on. At least a teller called you! Get her a gift, and then ask for any customer rolled anything while you do the pick up!

Keep us posted!

Nice begets nice, Cards.

One, you never know what may have been missed (e.g. 40%ers).
Two, treat the tellers well and they will reply in kind (like thinking to call you when something interesting comes in) .
Three, as was stated earlier, if you get selective (especially when they've called) they may not call next time.

Good call buying the extra $500. I would (and have) done the same thing many times.

Funny, one of my order banks just called me a little while ago and said a customer dropped off $500 in halves, did I want them... I told her to hang on to them until Tuesday and I'll take them off her hand when I come in for my 6 other boxes.

Like you, I'll still search these. I've found that some people around here obviously have no clue of 40%ers.

Update to the thread:

It was 50 rolls of pure skunk. :laughing9:

That's my good deed for the month.
